Our Story
A charming corner of serenity, where hospitality, comfort, and tradition come together to offer you a relaxing experience in the heart of Tuscany.
La Magione: A Name with Ancient Roots
Hotel La Magione pays tribute to the complex of the Magione of Saint John the Baptist, an ancient Templar hospital located along the Via Francigena, the old route traveled by pilgrims on their way to Rome.
The Castle of the Magione, documented as early as before 1140, was in fact one of the many “Domus Templi” tasked with providing rest and hospitality to travelers along their journey. The building included an ancient church and a “hospital” for pilgrims, and it is considered the most complete medieval hospital complex still standing in Western Europe.
The name “La Magione,” therefore, reflects not only a geographical connection, but also a reference to this ancient tradition of hospitality.

Hotel La Magione and Hotel Alcide
The history of our family in the hospitality world has its roots in Hotel Alcide, an institution that, since 1849, has been a symbol of quality and hospitality in Poggibonsi. Although Hotel La Magione is a newer establishment, it proudly carries on the same passion for hospitality that made Hotel Alcide famous. Our property is designed to offer a stay focused on comfort, with elegant rooms and personalized services that reflect our commitment to excellence. At Hotel La Magione, every guest is treated with the utmost attention and care, as part of our long and proud tradition.
The Kitchen: A Journey Through the Flavors of Tradition
Just a few steps from Hotel La Magione, the Ristorante Alcide offers one of the most authentic gastronomic experiences in Tuscany. Founded in 1849, the restaurant is still managed by the Ancillotti family and boasts a cuisine deeply rooted in tradition and quality. Famous for its seafood specialties, Ristorante Alcide is the perfect place to savor iconic dishes like Cacciucco alla Livornese and Sole alla Vernaccia, recipes that tell the story of the Ancillotti family. Today, Chef Loris continues this tradition, blending traditional dishes with contemporary cuisine that surprises and satisfies even the most discerning palates.
